Meet the Governors

28th January 2021Johnny Magpie

Angela McCann, MA (Ed), BEd (Hons), NPQEL, NPQH – Ex Officio Headteacher

Angela held the post of Staff Governor for a number of years before becoming an observer to the Governing Body in her role as Deputy Head, so was well aware of the work of the Governing Body before taking up the post of Headteacher.

Angela says, “I initially sought to become a school governor as I felt that I had the experience, skills and desire to make a positive contribution to the continuous development and success of the school, and wished to play an active role in the school and the parish community.  I was appointed as an NQT at St Alphonsus RC Primary School in September 1992, then gained promotion to the Senior Leadership Team and eventually to the role of Deputy Head Teacher, before becoming the Headteacher in 2014.

I am now extremely proud and privileged to lead St Alphonsus’ and want to see the school continue to thrive and grow, providing the best education, opportunities and experiences for our pupils which will enable all pupils to succeed and be the very best they can be.”

Eileen Smith – Foundation Governor

Link Governor for SEND Provision

Eileen joined the Governing Body of St Alphonsus’s Catholic Primary School ten years ago after having been approached by her parish priest.

Eileen says, “I live in the area which the school serves and which my children attended and so I know the community well.  I joined the Governing Body because I thought I could contribute.”

Emily Smith – Staff Governor

Link Governor for Quality of Education

Helen Bell – Chair and  Foundation Governor

Link Governor for Pupil Premium, Sports Premium and Mental Health

Erin Bielby – Parent Governor

Antonia Boyne-Cross – Foundation Governor

Link Governor for SEND, Safeguarding and Quality of Education
