Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage. 

In line with our whole school curriculum intent, in EYFS we focus on providing a range of experiences and opportunities for learning to take place. We nurture and develop the whole of the child so that they happy, feel safe, are confident and are ready to progress into KS1 and beyond. Ultimately with these things in place, we aim to improve their outcomes from their lower than average starting points so that they can make positive steps with their place in society and continuing education.

We have tailored our curriculum to ensure that children have the best foundation as possible to build upon their knowledge and skills as they move through the school.

Seven Key Features of Effective Practice

We follow the seven key features of effective practice (Development Matters 2020) to ensure that our children have the best learning experiences possible. The seven key features consist of:

  1. The best for every child 
  2. High-quality care 
  3. The curriculum: what we want children to learn
  4. Pedagogy: helping children to learn
  5. Assessment: checking what children have learnt
  6. Self-regulation and executive function
  7. Partnership with parents

 

Below you will find the EYFS Curriculum Rationale and an overview of the topics that will be taught over the course of the academic year.

Each half term a homework grid will be sent home to complete as a family (this can be found under, parents and pupils and homework grids on this website). Please make sure that completed homework grids are returned by the end of each half term. If you have any questions regarding homework, then please do not hesitate to speak to the class teacher or a member of the team.

Tapestry

What is Tapestry?

Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time in Nursery and Reception. This system allows us to work with parents and carers to share information and record the children’s play and learning in and outside of the classroom.

How does Tapestry work?

Tapestry provides each individual child with their own Learning Journal held online. Parents and carers are given their own log-in using their email and password (which is pre-set by us but can be changed by you to make it more secure). All our staff are given a secure log-in. They can then upload observations, photos or videos; recording children’s achievements and assessing their learning in reference to the EYFS curriculum.

Parents can change their settings so that an email is then automatically generated informing them when an observation has been added so they can have a look and add any comments of their own.
